Hailing from a farm in outback Australia Kristin Velvet’s passion for music has taken her across the globe, starting out as a DJ and promoter in Tokyo, to becoming a regular fixture of the dance floors in London and then via Sydney where she was a label manager at Domino Records. Today she is an essential figure of Berlin’s club scene, holding a residency at Watergate Club and running the label Arms & Legs records alongside Daniel Steinberg. The label has featured a long line of killer remixes & releases from respected artists including Felix Da Housecat, Paul Johnson, 808 State, Cari Lekebusch, Nick Holder, Oliver Dollar, Jan Driver & Crazy P.

Velvet’s music acumen has been well documented within the label with her own productions gaining support gaining support from many of house music’s upper echelons, such as Maya Jane Coles, The Blessed Madonna, Jamie Jones, Danny Howard and Eats Everything. Whilst most of her material has landed on Arms & legs, Velvet’s productions have also appeared on Felix Da Housecat’s Founders of Filth, Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep in Sound and Cassy’s Kwench records.

Geared directly to the dance floor Velvet’s releases have received nods from key tastemakers including Resident Advisor who described her music as ‘fist-pumping good fun’ and DJ Mag who summed up her sound ‘high production values and a feelgood house and techno sound that is subtly nostalgic but not slavishly cowed to the classics, she’s continually providing real heat for the dancefloor.’

In addition to Velvet’s solo releases, she has released four ‘Cats Love Velvet’ EPs - the collaborative project she does with Felix Da Housecat. Kristin Velvet has been called upon to remix Jesse Saunders and Paul Mac while her own productions have been remixed by Louie Vega, Cari Lekebusch and Mark Broom, a testament to her broad taste and appeal.
Velvet’s music taste is broad and her flexibility behind the decks sees her traversing confidently across genres and decades but always with a keen eye on the dance floor, a place she inherently understands.
